LEAVES PLCE BACK IN THE STONEAGE I HAVE OWNED EVERY MILITARY STYLE PACK PRODUCED BY BERGHAUS , STARTING WITH THE ROC THEN THE CRUSADER AND NOW THIS THIS ONE. THEY HAVE ALL BEEN FANTASTIC IN TERMS OF BUILD QUALITY AND COMFORT CARRYING HEAVY LOADS LONG DISTANCES OVER LONG PERIODS OF TIME. BUT THE FEATURE I LIKE BEST IS WHILE YOUR ROLL MAT IS STRAPPED TO THE SIDE OF YOUR PACK THERE'S LOADS OF ROOM UNDER THE LID FOR YOUR MUNRO. 29 July 2011
Grandmother of all rucksack I have been read reviews on big rucksacks on internet for a couple of months now, and if you want a rugged serious expedition sack sooner or later most of the people mention Vulcan as a alternative so I will give it a chance now. And for me living in Sweden its about 100 € cheaper to order direct from Berghaus than to buy it here in Sweden. The delivery took only three days, thats good. I will come back after and review it more after some trips in the swedish fjell. 25 May 2011
Very Rugged! I bought an earlier (but very similar) model of this bergen around ten years ago, and by the looks of things it had had a very tough life before I owned it! Although it's starting to look rather tired, it's versatile and very comfortable, happy and comfortable even with 30+ kg loads, and save for the elastic around the lid perishing it's still in perfect working order, even all of the original clips are still in place! 16 April 2011
If it's good enough for the military ... This is the third Vulcan I've had and you just can't better it for load carrying in comfort. A colleague broke an ankle and his rucksack was strapped onto the top of the Vulcan which I carried for a couple of days until we got him back to civilisation. I wouldn't be without it on any serious expedition. My only critiscm is that the lid does not extend at the back when filled to capacity and therefore anything strapped to the top tends to be very close to your head. 15 November 2010
